As one of the busiest towers in the world, the chapter was able to see the intricacies of day-to-day operaƟons up close and personal. A big thank you to chapter member and air traffic controller Jenny SeƩle for the tour! ✈ INDIA CHAPTER The India Chapter kick-started the 2018 Girls in Aviation Day celebration in June. Across India, there will be 18 Girls in Aviation Day events. The journey began at Imphal on June 13 with 50 student attendees touring Imphal Airport and exploring, learning, and dis- covering various aspects of aviation and aerospace. Phil Shaw , CEO of Lockheed Martin India, along with Honorable Governor of Manipur Mrs. Najma Heptulla addressed the girls and encouraged them to chase after their dreams. The daylong event helped girls to better understand the industry along with various careers and job opportunities avail- able. Girls were encouraged to take STEM subjects in school and explore career opportu- nities in related industries. ✈ CONNECTICUT CHAPTER The Connecticut Chapter had an enthusi- astic turnout for its potluck July meeting at an aviation-themed brewery in South Windsor, Connecticut. Hartford's Brainard Airport is the loca- tion of the chapter's fourth Girls in Avia- tion Day on October 13, 2018, and the event got a boost when chapter president Carol SaNogueira was interviewed by the Hart- ford Courant about how the WAI Connecti- cut Chapter is helping increase the presence of women in STEM fields. ✈ CONNECTICUT CHAPTER INDIA CHAPTER CHICAGO'S LEADING EDGE CHAPTER AUSTRALIAN CHAPTER The Australia n Chapter ha s been working tirelessly to es- tablish plans for the upcoming bia nnual conference sched- uled for the end of September at the stunning Hunter Valley Wine region of NSW. Chapter members have been very busy attending local air shows and events promoting various avia- tion fields to younger women. The team's most recent event wa s held during t wo days at the Wings Over Illawarra air show where use of the 3D video training tools were extremely popular at the WAI Australian Chapter booth. ✈
