The aviaton industry leaves nothing to chance and neither should you. Become the career professional you want to be. LINCOLN A The Story-Keepers: A Creatve-Nonfcton Writng Workshop Shirlee Smith Matheson What are the criteria for creatve nonfcton? How does one combine truth and fcton while retaining honest re- portng? In this lively workshop you will learn to prepare outlines and conduct interviews for personal histories, add documented research (primary and secondary), and narrate events in an entertaining style. We will discuss the importance of sharpening one's senses to the people and events that surround us, asking—and elicitng—the right questons in search of precise answers while observing privacy issues, and the art of shaping creatve true stories to interest a variety of readers. LINCOLN E Aviaton Outreach: The Missing Links Shannon McLoughlin Morrison, Melanie Zeigler Dickman Despite our collectve best eforts, young women are stll hesitant to pursue a career in the aviaton industry. How can we contnue to increase and promote women in the industry, and set a path to success early in a girl's life? JACKSON F Troubleshootng: A Necessary Tool for Every AMT Cindy Rodina Repairing airplanes isn't always as easy as removing and replacing a component. More complex systems require the technician to look deeper into the system and diag- nose the problem. Troubleshootng is a valuable tool to be used by the AMT. WASHINGTON B Machado Defensive Flying Rod Machado Learn some of the defensive strategies that have kept pi- lots from falling victm to aviaton's natural predators and enemies. Tom Wolfe's book The Right Stuf portrayed in- dividuals having superior survival skill. The "right stuf," as it is known, is made up of a strategic method of thinking. These thought paterns are presented to help pilots make each fight with confdence and safety. This seminar asks and answers the following questons: Who do you fy for (even if you're not a commercial pilot) and why this is im- portant? What's the most expensive airplane you've ever fown and why should cost never mater to you? When will you make the most important in-fight decisions you'll ever make in an airplane? On the ground? In the air? What is your greatest strength as a person and why this is also your greatest weakness? What's the diference between you (a safe pilot today) and another pilot who bends an airplane on any given day? JACKSON C Families in Flight Jacqueline Boyd From "coupling" to "uncoupling," defning roles as a par- ent or step-parent, blending families (or not), from birth issues to death, building a family presents some interest- ing issues. When the family includes a fying parent— or two—the issues multply. This workshop will provide a platorm for discussion of these issues, and any others that might be presented by the audience. The format will be several separate roundtable discussions on individual topics defned by the audience. Midway through the allot- ted tme the group will come back together to develop a consensus of concerns and further discussion on possible solutons to the discussion topics.
