Dear WAI members: What a wonderful 28th an- nual conference many of us had the opportunity to expe- rience in March! We had a few new programs launched at this year's conference including the "Explore the Excitement of Flying" pro- gram for individuals inter- ested in learning to fly, an evening seminar, hosted by AOPA called "Back to Your Roots" for airline pilots wanting to return to a GA cockpit, a course for future dispatchers, and more. We kicked off the event with a special recognition of one of our longtime members and WASP Dawn Seymour by celebrating her 100th birthday this year. And for the young- er set, we had special events for the college/university stu- dents present and our young professionals. If you have never attended a WAI conference or if it's been several years, you won't want to miss next year in Reno, and see all that hap- pens at your annual event. Less than two weeks after returning to Ohio I found my- self back on the road again. I had the pleasure of speaking at the Indianapolis Aero Club about the history and future of WAI. A few of our Indianapolis chapter members were pres- ent that evening, and several of the nearly 100 attendees expressed interest in learning more about the WAI scholarship program and Girls in Aviation Day events. The following week I was on a panel in Dallas during FordHarrison's Airline Labor & Employment Law sympo- sium to discuss the current shortage of pilots and mechanics in the airline industry, and ideas and methods to address the issues. From there I traveled to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to par- ticipate in the chapter's Cupcake Fundraiser. It was a lot of fun to be part of this highly successful chapter event, inter- acting with chapter members, and enjoying some wonderful cupcakes. I had a great week at SUN 'n FUN Fly-In interact- ing with new and renewing members. The following week, I was in Chicago to welcome a group at the DuPage Airport who were there to honor the WASP. One of the best things about my job is the opportunity to travel to various aviation events to share with others the story of WAI and our efforts to grow aviation and provide resources to those interested in being a part of aviation. I enjoy visiting our chapters and meeting with chapter members, learning what they do in their local communities, and seeing the excitement and camaraderie displayed at all these events. I invite you to consider making plans to join us in Dayton, Ohio, on September 29 and 30 as we tour many of the his- toric aviation sites, meet aviation authors, hear from fasci- nating speakers, and enjoy the fellowship that comes with attending a WAI Connect event. Be sure to read the wrap-up article about this year's con- ference, the launch of our new #IamWAI marketing cam- paign, list of our scholarship winners, plus the great features and columns found in this issue.
