M A Y / J U N E 2 0 1 7 Aviation forWomen 5 Storytelling connects people. I'm reminded of this point as I work on my list of follow-up calls and emails from our annual conference in March. Each attendee who gath- ered in Orlando had a unique story about their aviation journey—whether it was a student, a first-time attendee, a young professional who had been hired to her first dream job thanks to the help of a mentor, or a WASP who had decades of advice and memories to share. Of course, one of my favorites is listening to the stories of our young people who participated in Girls in Aviation Day Orlando! Their excite- ment and big smiles are contagious! Thanks to a dedicated video team and an incredibly talented group of volunteer photographers and writers, we were able to capture both in pictures and words some of the amazing stories of our members in our three issues of The Daily, plus add an excellent visual element to our growing social media presence. We asked and you agreed: Show your pride by taking your picture wearing our new #IamWAI button or taking a picture with our #IamWAI photo frame. This helps to show the diversity of our members in age, career endeavors, and where we live. (See some of those photos on Page 31 and more on our Facebook page.) In this issue, you'll find some more valuable storytelling by our regular contrib- utors on a variety of topics that we hope you can use in your own lives. Aviation for Women is your outlet for telling a story. Because when we share our advice, challenges, and new adventures, we may inspire a future WAI member. ✈ E D I T O R ' S L E T T E R K E L L Y M U R P H Y Kelly takes a selfie with Margot Lee Shetterly, author of Hidden Figures, the untold story of the black female mathematicians who helped with the space race.
