The North Texas Chapter gathered at chapter President Chrissi Culver 's home for a 2017 holiday party to celebrate a fantastic year of events, an enormously successful Girls in Aviation Day with over 1,200 kids in attendance, and a growing and active membership. On January 13, the North Texas Chapter enjoyed the first meeting of the year to discuss and plan a fun-filled agenda of activities for the year. Dr. Janette McMurtrie also announced a scholarship to pro- vide a paid registration to the 29th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference in Reno. The first event of the year included two activity sta- tions at the Dallas Independent School District STEM Expo on January 20. Thousands of fami- lies attended, and the chapter enjoyed introduc- ing area kids to aviation with a fun photo booth, and a station where children built and flew their foam gliders. ✈ SOUTHERN AIRWAYS CHAPTER WAI Southern Airways Chapter celebrated the holidays with a party at Dr. Carole Lane 's beau- tiful downtown Birmingham home. The group enjoyed great food and company, with the city skyline as a backdrop (plus watching airplanes arriving at KBHM). The evening was topped off with a rousing and vicious game of Dirty Santa, with lots of aviation-themed gifts. Plans for 2018 include an ATC tour at Birmingham, Girls in Aviation Day 2018, and adding more members. ✈ MILE HIGH CHAPTER The Mile High Chapter hosted its annual holiday party at The Humble Pie Store in December. Con- gratulations to our new member Juliana Ravdal for receiving the chapter's annual scholarship to attend WAI2018. Our January chapter meeting was held at Centennial Airport (KAPA). The air- port operations t e a m w a s g r a - cious enough to give us a presen- tation about the history of the air- port and a tour of the airfield. ✈ Left: Mile High Chapter President Trimbi Szabo (left) with winner Juliana Ravdal.
