8 Aviation forWomen J A N U A R Y / F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 6 Everything Is New Happy New Year! Why am I surprised at the beginning of each new year by the profound feel- i n g o f r e - newal? The "everything is new" and "anything can happen" feelings that come with a fresh, clean 12-month calendar of potential spread out in front of me. Because I was new to the outreach director job in 2015, it seemed like I spent the year just trying to stay ahead of the train that perpetual- ly felt like it was nipping at my heels and blowing steam right on my neck. But even in that mode, we got so much done together! And 2016 promises to be more exciting, more fun, and more rewarding. As we embark together on this new year, and we start filling in all those gloriously clean calendar sheets, I have a challenge for the chapters. Actually, eight challenges for the new year: ✈ Have a vision and a purpose. ✈ Set your intentions. ✈ Take really good care of yourself. ✈ Set your vibe. ✈ Be intentional about your time. ✈ Be grateful. ✈ Be kind. ✈ Be you. There are so many great things com- ing this year, and it's all going to happen so fast. Right now, in the quiet before the storm, take a breath and think about these eight challenges. I'm constant- ly amazed by you, the individual mem- bers of WAI, and by you as you come to- gether as chapters—I'll start with being grateful right now—I'm very grateful to have you as my tribe. You inspire me and make me proud just to be associat- ed with you. Now, enough warm-and-fuzzy, let's go kick some 2016 butt—we have so much to do, and so much fun to have! ✈ W A I N E W S C H A P T E R S by Molly Martin MTSU AIR RAIDERS CHAPTER OSHKOSH CHAPTER OSHKOSH CHAPTER The WAI-Oshkosh Chapter in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, held its ffth annual Frost- ing for Flight cupcake competition and sale on November 14 at Wittman Regional Airport. Five bakers competed for priz- es in a Cupcake Wars-style event. Three judges, WBAY Meteorologist Jenny Curtiss , The Cupcake Couture owner Michelle Axford , and Wittman Regional Airport Director Peter Moll tasted each team's cupcake and judged them based on taste, appearance, and theme. Winners were chosen for frst, second, and third places, as well as the crowd favorite. Competitors and chapter members provided cupcakes for sale and more than $600 was raised for the chapter's scholarship fund. ✈ The mother and daughter team of Mary and Caroline Reabe took third place honors with their Captain Caroline Aviation theme. Eight-year-old Caroline wore an airline captain uni- form, while her mom served as frst offcer. MTSU AIR RAIDERS CHAPTER Members of the MTSU Air Raiders Chap- ter in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, recently toured Nashville International Airport. The tour included a visit to the emergency op- erations center and a visit with one of the dogs used to sniff out drugs, Megatron . ✈ Alex Bagwell, WAI 61139; Caroline Wright, WAI 60883; Ella Lindskoug, WAI 66662; Chris Honicak; Pascal Holtkamp, WAI 60963; William Hatcher, WAI 65619; and Morgan Hunlen, WAI 54400.
