(Scholarship value $5,000— estimated total value $7,000) United Airlines Tech Ops Women in Aviation Scholarship 2017 (2) Open to Women in Aviation International mem- bers who are seeking a degree in aerospace/ aeronautical engineering, aviation maintenance technology, or an A&P; through an aviation tech- nician program. Applicants must either b e currently en- rolled or offcially accepted into an aerospace/ aeronautical engineering program, aviation maintenance technology program, or aviation technician program at an ac- credited university, college, o r AMT sch o ol in the U. S . Must currently have a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent at the time of application—either in high school or their current aerospace/aero- nautical engineering program, aviation mainte- nance technology program, or aviation techni- cian program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. Applicants to provide copy of a college acceptance letter. In addition to academic transcripts, please submit a 500-1,000 word essay, typed and dou- ble-spaced, addressing the following topics: ➊ What does Women in Aviation Interna- tional mean to you? ➋ If someone else was to describe your greatest strength, what would it be and why? What do you consider to be your greatest strength and why? ➌ Why are you the most qualifed candidate for the United Airlines Tech Ops Scholarship? Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the winner's educational institution. Funds can be used for tuition, books, or fees related to obtain- ing the A&P; from an AMT school in the U.S. (Scholarship value $1,500— estimated total value $3,000) Yukiko Howell Memorial STEM Scholarship The Washington State Chapter of WAI offers a $1,500 scholarship for science, technology, en- gineering, and math (STEM) education in mem- ory of Yukiko Howell. Yukiko taught math, sci- ence, and Japanese language for many years at Annie Wright School, a private school in Tacoma, A pplicants must be a member of Women in Aviation International by Novem- ber 1, 2016, and may apply for no more than two scholarships. Internships are not included in the two per member scholarship limit. New This Year: All scholarships may be applied for electronically through the WAI website. Please submit your application only when you have all of the neces- sary fles ready. Should you wish to print out the application form and submit your application on paper, all application materials can be submitted in the same envelope. Do not apply electronically and mail a paper application for the same scholar- ship. Some scholarships will only accept online applications this year; please read the requirements carefully. These requirements are the minimum for all scholarships unless otherwise indi- cated. Some scholarships may require additional information; please read the de- scription thoroughly to make sure you meet all requirements. For each scholarship include two stapled (no folders) complete application sets (one original and one copy) of the following information: ● two one-page recommendation letters ● typed, descriptive 500-word essay ● professional résumé ● copies of all aviation and medical certifcates and the last three pages of your pilot logbook (if applicable). Other applicable information as requested for each specifc award/grant/scholarship ● If mailing your application you must also include the offcial WAI application form available at www.WAI.org/scholarships. Descriptive essay and résumé should address the following: ● your aviation history and goals ● what you have done for yourself to achieve your goals ● where you see yourself in fve and 10 years ● how the scholarship will help you achieve your objective and your present fnancial need ● fight or other training/education for which you need assistance and how your previous training was fnanced ● educational scholarships, awards, and honors ● where you would obtain the training and the hourly rate for the instructor, aircraft, and simulators, or other costs, if applying for a cash scholarship ● demonstrated involvement in aviation activities ● other applicable information as requested for each specifc award/grant/scholarship International applicants must meet all requirements and, in addition, must in- clude your country's pilot, mechanic, or other requirements and the equivalent copies of certifcates, licenses, and medicals. Scholarship applications must be signed and postmarked by N O V E M B E R 1 4 , 2 0 1 6 .
