space, created to address the loss of control in fight (LOC-I) epidemic that has taken so many lives in GA, commercial, and corporate aviation. Prevailance Aerospace incorporates many of the lessons learned and practiced in the F-14 and F/A-18 community into its Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) syllabus. All of the instructors are former F-14 or F/A-18 aviators. Every day the general aviation community faces a host of safety challenges. Dynamically changing weather, equipment malfunction or failure, and aircrew-related physical and psy- chological factors are just a few of the hurdles pilots face on a day-to-day basis. However, there is one killer that accounts for more fatal aircraft accidents than any other—LOC-I. It can occur in any phase of fight, in any aircraft confgura- tion, in any environment, to any pilot. LOC-I accidents may be straight forward and attributable to a single causal fac- tor, or more complex, resulting from numerous causal and contributing factors acting together. Prevailance Aerospace is working to help spread the knowledge and training that can help make aviation safer for everyone. "I am passionate about what we are doing and feel it is applicable to every pilot, regardless of total hours, qualifcations, or experience," Van- essa said. "Experience alone cannot protect you from the LOC-I threat; only effective on-aircraft training can." Aircraft control malfunctions; environmental factors like wake turbulence, clear air turbulence, or mountain wave; and pilot disorientation can lead to unusual attitudes. Custom- ers of Prevailance Aerospace take to the sky with an instruc- tor in an Extra 330LX, an aerobatic aircraft designed to with- stand this intense training. "Despite the dynamic nature of the training, we tailor each program to align with the g limitations of the aircraft that you fy on a regular basis," Vanessa said. "Our program is not stick and rudder training. It is training designed to address the startle factor and how best to prepare you, mentally and physically, for any given upset situation." When Meagan left active duty, she too pursued a full-time civilian career in conjunction with her Navy Reserve career but her primary focus was that of being a wife and mother. She gave birth to the frst of her two daughters in 2012, a year before leaving active duty. Her decision to leave active duty was largely due to her desire to be an everyday presence in her daughter's life. "I have experienced success in my professional career in the last three years but nothing has been more important to me than my family," she said. "Before I wanted to be a fght- er pilot, I always wanted to be a mother, and that role has trumped fying in every way. Don't get me wrong, I loved fy- ing in the military, but the challenges, successes, and failures I have faced as a parent have made me the very best version of myself. I have now achieved all of my dreams!" Vanessa is married and has two boys, ages 5 and 7. She con- tinues to balance her work as a business owner of two grow- ing companies, home life, and fying. "I still dream of having more time to fy—like everyone else," Vanessa said. ✈ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
