J U L Y / A U G U S T 2 0 1 6 Aviation forWomen 23 NEW for 2017 United Airlines Tech Ops Women in Aviation Scholarship 2017 (2) Open to WAI members seeking a degree in aerospace/aeronautical en- gineering, aviation maintenance technology or an A&P; through an aviation technician program. Applicants must either be current- ly enrolled or offcially accepted into an aerospace/aeronautical engineer- ing program, aviation maintenance technology program or aviation tech- nician program at an accredited uni- versity, college, or AMT School in the U.S. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent at the time of application—either in high school or their current aerospace/aeronautical engi- neering program, aviation maintenance technology program, or aviation technician program. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Applicant to provide copy of a college acceptance letter. In addition to academic transcripts, please submit a 500-1,000 word essay, typed and double-spaced, addressing the following topics: ➊ What does Women in Aviation International mean to you? ➋ If someone else was to describe your greatest strength, what would it be and why? What do you consider to be your greatest strength and why? ➌ Why are you the most qualifed candidate for the United Airlines Tech Ops Scholarship? Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the winner's educational in- stitution. Funds can be used for tuition, books, or fees related to obtain- ing the A&P; from an AMT school in the U.S. (Scholarship value $1,500 each) Tools for Aircraft Maintenance (TAM) Scholarship The TAM Scholarship was created af ter sponsor Carolyn Burton, an American Airlines mechanic, identifed a need for providing tools to a female student starting out in aircraft maintenance. Carolyn will offer one tool scholarship for $2,500 worth of tools of your choice. In addition, Snap-On In- dustrial is generously contributing an aviation start- er tool kit with a value of $2,500. This scholarship is specifically for the purchase of tools for a current- ly enrolled full-time female student in maintenance training for airframe and powerplant certifcates. This scholarship is not applied toward education costs—it is for tools only. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or le- gal residents. Finalists will be interviewed and must attend the Women in Aviation International Confer- ence in Orlando, Florida, at the fnalist's own expense. In your essay please share your goals, experience in aviation, and why you chose aircraft maintenance as your career. Applicants should show passion, teamwork, inspiration, challenges in life, and strong characteristics such as leadership qual- ities, community involvement and/or volunteer work, and academic standing. Include two recent single-page recommendation letters. One letter should be from someone who has worked directly with you in the feld, noting teamwork and aptitude, and mentioning a specifc task that impressed the reference. Additionally, proof of school attendance must be provided and grades to date. Also provide grades from former academic facilities attended prior to starting out in maintenance. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to Snap-On Industrial once your tools have been selected. The funds must be used by the end of 2017. (Scholarship value $5,000) Quarter page AD goes here O T H E R O P P O R T U N I T I E S FedEx Express JT8 Engine Donation FedEx Express is accepting applications from qualified aviation schools, universities, museums, and other aviation education organi- zations for a JT8 engine with stand from the company's retiring feet. To be considered for this do- nation, please submit a detailed summary of your organization, in clu ding inf o r matio n a b o ut your program, how the engine would enhance your program, and any joint use opportunities with other area programs to increase the use of the asset. The recipient will be required to sign a contract that restricts the transfer of ownership and the sale of parts and acknowledges that the engine will be used for ground training only. Contract approval and a delivery date will be fnalized with the se- lected organization, and the winner will be announced at the 2017 In- ternational Women in Aviation Conference. Applicants must also be a corporate member of Women in Avia- tion International to be eligible. For the FedEx award, apply via the offcial WAI online application form.
