J U L Y / A U G U S T 2 0 1 6 Aviation forWomen 13 JOHN RIEDEL Blackburn Family Northwest Flight Scholarships are open to women ages 16 to 30 who have fown solo within the 12 months preceding applying for this scholarship and are working toward achieving flight training for any category, class, or rating. Applicant must provide a copy of her solo en- dorsement and/or medical certifcate with the application. Funds will be paid directly to the flight school of your choice and must be used within 12 months of the award. By submitting an application, scholarship recipients agree to send the Blackburn family a short email update each month describ- ing their previous month 's f light training highlights and a copy of their recent fight log entries until the $5,000 is used. (Scholarship value $5,000 each) Bombardier Aircraft Training Learjet 45 Type-Rating Scholarship In memory of those Bombardier Air- craft Training Instructor Pilots who have passed on, Bombardier Air- craft Training is proud to offer a 2017 scholarship for a LR45 type rating course. Upon success- ful completion of the LR45 pilot initial training course, the recipient will be able to conduct a 100 percent type rating checkride in the Learjet 45 simulator. The scholarship win- ner must, as a minimum, hold a private pilot certifcate with multiengine and instrument-airplane rating. The course lasts 16 days and will be conducted in Dallas, Texas. The scholarship winner is responsible for all lodg- ing and travel costs. The scholarship award must be started within one year of the scholarship award date. Customer support information for hotels and rental cars is available by calling 1-888-679-4200. (Scholarship value $35,900) Bunny M. Connors Memorial Scholarship Bunny M. Connors was a career respiratory therapist at sev- eral hospitals in the North Andover, Massachusetts, area. She later chose to pursue her lifelong dream of flying. She became a fight instructor, enthusiastically sharing her love of fying with her students. She went on to a commercial fy- ing career with Bird Aviation and Cape Central Airways. The scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member pursuing a private pilot certifcate or instrument rating. Flight training must be completed in 12 months of receiving scholarship. (Scholarship value $1,000) CAE ATP/CTP Course This program addresses the modification to ATP certifi- cation requirements for transition from commercial pilot certification to an airline transport op- erational environment and meets all FAA requirements and regulations (FAR 61.156). Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess an FAA commercial certificate and multiengine and instru- ment ratings, or have military experience per FAR 61.73. Successful completion of this course fulfills eligibility requirements for students to take the ATP knowledge test. The ATP Certificate Training Program is seven days long and is offered in our Dallas, Texas, facility. (Scholarship value $7,800) Career Eagles Aviation Scholarship Career Eagles, a partnership with the Ohio State University Center for Aviation Studies, the Knowlton Foundation, Youth Aviation Adven- ture, and the Experimental Aircraft Association, will award two $5,000 scholarships to students entering a baccalaureate degree program in aviation with the intent to pursue a career as a professional pilot. Appli- cants must be in good standing as a senior in high school and be apply- ing to a regionally accredited col- lege or university, and have a mini- mum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better. Funds will be paid directly to the fight school and must be used within 12 months of the award. In addition to all WAI requirements applicants must in- clude an offcial high school transcript and a detailed essay (500-1,000 words, typed and double-spaced) that address- es the following topics: ➊ What has inspired you to pursue a career as a professional pilot? (If you participated in a youth aviation outreach organization, please mention it.) ➋ What has been your greatest life challenge and how has it enriched you? ➌ Why are you the most qualifed candidate for the Career Eagles Aviation Scholarship? In addition to the $5,000 scholarship, Career Eagles will cover the cost of registration to the conference and its lunch and dinner banquets for the two award winners. (Scholarship value $5,000 each) Christine Reed Memorial Flight Scholarship WAI in partnership with J. Elliot Marketing (Nipomo, Cali- fornia) offer a $2,500 fight training scholarship in memo- ry of Christine Reed. Christine never completed her fight training. She loved airplanes and loved airports, and she attempted to become a private pilot. Christine passed away unexpectedly at the age of 32. Many pilots never forget their frst solo because it's such a momentous occasion in the process of becoming a pilot. It gives an aspiring pilot a great deal of confdence for over- coming all of the hurdles in the first stages of becoming a pilot. It sets the stage for an aspiring pilot to transition from student pilot to solo pilot to private pilot. And becoming a private pilot is the frst major step toward a life in general aviation and/or becoming a professional pilot.
