22 Aviation forWomen J U L Y / A U G U S T 2 0 1 6 Delta Air Lines Engine Maintenance Internship Delta Air Lines would like to extend a 2017 summer intern- ship (13 weeks) opportunity to a student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree in business management or in- dustrial engineering. In addition to an internship position, the recipient will receive a trip to the 28th annual Interna- tional Women in Aviation Conference (includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and conference fee). Applicants must be full-time students at the junior or se- nior level with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale). Appli- cants must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. Lodging accommoda- tions will not be provided for the du- ration of the 13-week internship. The technical services intern re- ports to the project leader–engine maintenance. Responsibilities in- clude but are not limited to creat- ing presentations, process improve- ments, developing business plans, understanding fnance and our cost structure, coordination of meetings, and analyzing data and metrics. You will par- ticipate in and assist the management team in developing long-term and short-term goals in support of engine main- tenance production. You will also have the opportunity to work with both internal and external customers from all lev- els of management. You must practice safety-conscious be- haviors in all operational processes and procedures. Responsibilities: ● Create and report metrics in Excel and PowerPoint. ● Work closely with the engine maintenance manage- ment team to provide them solutions to data based on in- dustry trends that are developing worldwide. ● Develop and implement changes in our production strategy based on business demands. ● Use FAA, OSHA, and EPA regulations and Delta policy requirements to assist the shops in meeting their produc- tion goals. Skills/Abilities: ● Knowledge of basic PC skills and Microsoft Offce soft- ware suite required. ● Good technical writing and oral communication skills required. ● Must be capable of working in a team environment to creatively solve technical problems. ● Must have the ability to complete assignments with minimum supervision ● Strong ability to work within a team environment to creatively solve technical problems and implement change. ● Must develop both strategic and tactical plans that cre- ate a safety-conscious environment resulting in employee safety and well-being. Compensation is paid to interns based on the following guidelines: junior $2,253 per month ($15/hour)–completed at least 60 semester hours in college completed; senior $2,947 per month ($17/hour)–completed at least 90 semester hours in college completed. Note: Students must be currently en- rolled in school to participate in the internship program. In addition to all WAI requirements, interested appli- cants should submit a résumé and cover letter detailing their qualifcations. Applicants should list academic hon- ors, scholarships, awards, and special achievements. (Internship value $12,000) Pratt & Whitney Engine Maintenance Training Scholarship (6) Pratt & Whitney will award a total of six engine maintenance training scholarships to individuals pursu- ing careers in aviation maintenance. Winners will have the option to at- tend any one of the commercial en- gines maintenance training courses offered by Pratt & Whitney or Pratt & Whitney Canada, such as System Familiarization, Line and Base Main- tenance, and B orescope Inspec- tion Procedures on JT8D, JT9D, PW2000, PW4000, PT6, or PW100 engines. The Pratt & Whitney Maintenance Training Scholarships can be redeemed at the P&W; Customer Training Center in East Hartford, Connecticut. For small P&W; engine train- ing (P&W; Canada engines) the training will take place at a FlightSafety facility (location that is most convenient for the student). Hotel accommodations and airfare are covered as part of the maintenance training scholarship. (Scholarship value $1,000-$3,400 each depending on course taken) Southwest Airlines Maintenance Training Scholarships (2) Southwest Airlines is pleased to offer two individual main- tenance training scholarships. The recipient may choose from the following courses: two-week 737-700/800 systems class, or one-week 737-700/800 avionics class. Included in the scholarship is a roundtrip ticket on Southwest Airlines to Dallas, hotel accommodations, and provisions for meals for the duration of class. During the time the recipient is attending training she/he will meet with tech ops leaders; tour the DAL maintenance facility, headquarters, and NOC; shadow a supervisor in tech ops; and attend other fun Southwest Airlines events. In addition to the WAI scholarship checklist items, the applicant must meet the following requirements: Applicant must have an A&P; certificate or be an active A&P; student at the time the scholarship is awarded, and applicant must include an essay (200 words or less) that explains her/his interest in aviation. Recipient will have one year from the time awarded to redeem the scholarship. (Scholarship value $2,450-$4,250 depending on class choice) Pratt & Whitney offers many scholarships every year.
