Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, have a commercial pilot certifcate with tailwheel endorse- ment at the time the scholarship is awarded, and be willing to complete the final step in his or her transition and ori- entation training on location at Thrush Aircraft. All training must be conducted in the United States. Applicants should submit a 500-word essay outlining their career ambitions and goals, along with their current qualifcations, for consideration by senior management at Thrush. Scholarship funds are to be used for approved flight training and course materials, and may be used for travel to and from the fight training location, and to Thrush Air- craft during the training period. Ongoing reports of training progress will be required, and the training is to be complet- ed in 12 months' time. (Scholarship value $10,000) The United Airlines Pilot Scholarship (2) United Airlines is proud to partner with WAI supporting female aviators. As an industry leader passionate about diversity and inclusion, United Airlines' mission is to cre- ate an inclusive work environment characterized by dig- nity and respect that empowers every employee to serve the global marketplace and contribute to company success. United Airlines would like to make a difference in the life of two aspiring female airline pilots who are pursuing their dream in the world of aviation. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to women that currently meet the follow- ing criteria: ● Must be a current full-time junior, senior, or gradu- ate student enrolled in an accredited collegiate aviation or aeronautical science program at application deadline. ● FAA instrument rating required ● FAA commercial certifcate preferred ● FAA multiengine rating preferred ● Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA required These scholarships are intended for women seeking ad- vancement in professional aviation development toward a career as a professional airline pilot. The recipients will be chosen on a basis of merit, career aspirations, and dedica- tion, as well as contributions to their community and ser- vice with WAI. Two letters of recommendation are required, includ- ing one from a faculty member or fight instructor and one from a pilot who has fown with the candidate. Please also submit academic transcripts, copies of pilot and medical certificates, and an essay describing career aspirations and goals, achievements/honors, aviation development to date, involvement with WAI, volunteerism, leadership, and planned use of scholarship funds. Be prepared to share your logbooks if selected for an interview. In addition to the $5,000 scholarship, the recipients will receive a trip to the 28th annual International Women in Aviation Conference (including round-trip airfare, hotel ac- commodations, and registration). Scholarship funds will be paid directly to your fight school and training must be com- pleted within one year. (Scholarship value $5,000 each) WAI–Oshkosh Chapter Spirit of Flight Scholarship The WAI-Oshkosh Chapter Spirit of Flight Scholarship is open to women of all ages who have already soloed and are working on their recreational, sport pilot, private pilot, or commercial certifcate; instrument or multiengine rating; or CFI. Preference will be given to Wisconsin residents, but all who qualify are encouraged to apply. Funds will be paid to the fight school of your choice. (Scholarship value $500) Wings Over 35 The Wings Over 35 Scholarship is designed to promote general aviation among women or men over the age of 35 and aid a deserving person to attain certifcation as a pri- vate pilot. In addition to WAI requirements the applicant must be over the age of 35, not hold a private pilot certifcate, have a desire to pursue higher ratings, have a financial need, and hold a third-class medical. Applicants must explain their goals in aviation and what they have done thus far toward attaining that goal. All proceeds will be paid directly to the fight school of their choice and must be used within a year of receiving the award. (Scholarship value $500) Women Military Aviators Dream of Flight Scholarship Women Military Aviators (WMA) seeks to preserve, for history, the important role women have played in cre- ating and supporting the American spirit through their contributions to flight, aeronautics, and space. These elite bands of women have not only a love of aviation, but also have put their lives on the line in defense of their country through their military service. WMA is com- mitted to passing this legac y from one generation of women to another and has established an annual schol- arship program in support of this commitment. Advocat- ing the love of aviation, WMA offers an annual scholar- ship to advance a woman in her pursuit of fight ratings at an accredited institution or FAA Part 141 approved fight school. Recipient will also be given a one-year member- ship to Women Military Aviators. Over the past 30 years this scholarship has been given to select candidates so that they may pursue opportunities in aviation. Each applicant should supply—in addition to the basic WAI application requirements—a narrative addressing your demonstrated persistence and determination to fly and stated ability to complete training at an accredited in- stitution or FAA Part 141 approved fight school within one year of scholarship award. Also identify the school, college, university, and/or Part 141 approved school where ratings are being sought. Address your interest and/or participa- tion in military aviation, and address your fnancial need. (Scholarship value $2,500) NEW for 2017 Airbus Manufacturing Grant One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student in a trade, technical, college, or university education system pursuing a license or degree in an aviation manufacturing-related feld. The student must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in her/his feld of study. In addition to WAI requirements all applicants should submit a 500-word essay that addresses their career aspirations and clear, concise examples of how they are exhibiting or will exhibit behaviors that promote a safe, productive, and engaged manufacturing workplace. (Scholarship value $5,000)
