(Scholarship value $1,500) 'Hoss' Beckman Memorial Scholarship Inspired by her dad to follow her aviation dreams, WAI founding board member Trish Beckman offers this scholar- ship to a woman from outside the United States to encour- age her to follow her dreams. In spite of his humble beginnings, Hoss worked hard all his life to pro- vide for his family. He lived his life with integrity and provided positive encouragement to everyone. He was especially proud of his faith, family, military service, and volunteer ser- vice with the sheriff 's posse and fre department. His daughter Trish is eternally grateful for his inspiration and encouragement. Scholarship sele c tio n will b e based on your essay explaining how WAI conference at tendance will help you follow your dreams, and how you will inspire oth- ers to follow their dreams. This scholarship provides transportation to/from Orlan- do, four nights' accommodation, and conference registra- tion to attend the International Women in Aviation Confer- ence March 2-4, 2017. (Estimated scholarship value: $2,500) It's About Time Scholarship The It's About Time Scholarship is overseen by The Abing- don Co. each year and awards a full registration to the In- ternational Women in Aviation Conference, round-trip airfare, and room and board during the conference to a woman 18 or older. Along with access to seminars and multiple networking opportunities, we will introduce the winner to key people in aviation who will share their expe- riences. Applicants are not required to be pilots or in the aviation industry. The goal is to invite someone to see all of the different avenues of aviation from engineering to aero- batics to maintenance and airlines. The criteria are simple: The applicant chooses the format for their application. We have had stickers de- signed, essays written, videos shot, and someone even translated www.TheAbingdonCo.com into Spanish! The one that exhibits the most passion goes. Multiple ideas are encouraged. What would you do that will prove to us that you are the one we should bring with us to the conference and intro- duce you to key fgures in the aviation industry? Use your natural talents and skills to make your application stand out. You have a talent that makes you shine. What is that talent or skill that you possess that can be used by The Abingdon Co.? Prove it to us and we will support you by flying you out to the conference. Creativity and involve- ment in our company's social media are encouraged. (Scholarship value up to $5,000) Janet Clark Memorial Scholarship The Washington State Chapter of WAI offers a $1,500 schol- arship in memory of Janet Clark. She worked for the FAA as an airworthiness aviation safety inspector, maintenance di- vision, and was a member of the Washington State Chapter. Washington State Chapter members are proud of Ja- net's contributions as a strong advocate for aviation ed- ucation. The applicant shall be working toward a ca- re e r in aviatio n , e nro ll e d in a n accredited aviation-related pro- gram, have experience volunteer- ing at WAI events and/or aviation- related events in the previous year, and submit an essay that includes detailed explanations of the appli- cant's career path, goals, and volun- teer experiences. The scholarship must be used within one year of receipt. It will be paid directly to an accredited pro- gram/institution and may be ap- plied to tuition, books, specifc train- ing, or housing if the expense is arranged through an accredited program or institution. Aviation careers include, but are not limited to, air traf- fc controller, airport management, avionics technician, dis- patcher, engineer, flight attendant, mechanic, meteorolo- gist, navigator, and pilot. If the applicant has been working toward a career as a pilot, she/he must hold at least a pri- vate pilot certifcate prior to submitting application. (Scholarship value $1,500) The Mary Alice Beatty Scholarship The Southern Museum of Flight supports the legacy of Mary Alice Beatty, pilot and originator of the museum, with a $5,000 scholarship for young women ages 17 to 25 actively seeking careers in aviation and aerospace tech- nology. The scholarship exists to support job growth for women within aviation and aerospace technology within the state of Alabama, but all applicants will be considered. Applicants must be pursuing flight lessons, classes, or internships that will further their careers in aviation and aerospace technology and must be reflected within a one-page essay emphasizing how the award will help achieve personal goals within aviation. If they are enrolled in school, they must carry a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and a copy of the transcript to show this. Either they must be a resident in the state of Alabama, be enrolled in an Ala- bama school, or working in a professional internship/ap- prenticeship within the state of Alabama. Funds will be paid directly to the school and must be used within a year of being awarded. Please include a confdential fnancial statement of past funds allocated to current lessons, class- es, and/or internship. In addition, include a separate bud- getary statement that lists future need and what the award would be allocated toward. The fnancial statements may be on the same page in the form of an Excel document but separated as "Past Funds" and "Future Need."
